Through The Worst of Storms |

Far too soon, the bitter winter sank its fangs into the land and the pain of its fury was soon felt throughout the entire region. An early unexpected blizzard rushed in and brought fierce chilling winds and covered, the unprepared landscape with several feet of unwelcome snow. This seemed bad enough but soon after Old Man Winter advanced with a FREEZE, than the heavy snows turned to ice! Then another storm swept the frozen land, even before much could be done about the first one, leaving another layer of snow upon the crusted ice. Soon thereafter, came the worst freezing weather of all and FROZE everything like a solid rock sandwich, and there it lay! This terrible season had caught every rancher and cattleman by surprise and in this unforeseen act of nature, the great cattle herds of livestock were caught on the open ranges. The cattle were the regions major commodity and without them, everyone's livelihoods would be severely jeopardized and grave consequences loomed for the herds. All attempts were made to round up the freezing and starving animals and to supply them with hay, but the frozen snows with its depths were impossible barriers to any efforts. The herds were left to the elements and the season continued its fierce and savage attacks upon all the land. Because of the intensity and continuous blasts of that season, many took concern for their own lives and left the livestock to their own SURVIVAL. Finally, in late spring the cattlemen were able to survey their losses and the damage was far more than expected. Over ninety percent of their herds had perished in the harsh winter! This was a terrible blow to everyone and the losses were felt for many years. NOT ALL WAS LOST THOUGH! Something unexpectedly good came from all this, and it came in a most unusual manner. Even though great losses occurred, the winters trial had culled the great herds, leaving behind a SURPRISE! Not all were lost, but only the weaker, and those animals with a lesser stamina were gone! The animals that remained, even though they were very undernourished, they had somehow survived the cruel winter, where the majority had perished! In this observation, came the blessing, that those which did survive would now become the nations PRIZED BREEDING STOCK! The animals which had endured, carried within them a previously unknown "strength" and possessed a superior blood line, beyond the animals which had perished! Although that winter had been a tragedy and a testing time, in the long run, it became a blessing for the FUTURE! Often we will find that unexpected events which rush into our lives will prove to be somewhat of an advantage. Our course in life will often become cluttered with unnecessary ideas and absurdities, and it might take a "Stern Winter" to cull our lives a little. It is surely best for the dead wood Attitude of our Complacent Lives to be pruned away. Thereby allowing the more fruitful and more promising aspects of life to increase and continue in strength! |

TIMES AND SEASONS TEST THE SOUL and this will be a fact that all honest hearts will have to live with. The heart and mind have a natural instinct to take hold of things worthless to their well being (like pig iron to a magnet)! And it is fair to say, that "winters bitter cold" will arrive in various ways! For some it might be extremely harsh and for others these "winters" might be endured with less pain, but testing will arrive! |

The season of testing might arrive in sickness, in tragedy, by accidents, loss of friends, in disagreements, by financial loss or by poor choices but you can count on these winds blowing away useless "Thoughts and Things" from our life. Thereby Delivering unto our doors, New Potential, Greater Possibilities AND Fresh Opportunity TO DO BETTER! Storms will give us the needed chance to better examine our lives and take the time to winnow our thoughts and sift through our priorities.
