Wheat and Winners!
It was back in the mid west, Kansas to be exact, when a terrible drought once came onto the American heartland. It was extremely devastating for nearly all the wheat farmers, so bad that the government sent out its best men to inspect how much damage was taking place. During their investigations they discovered that yes, there was much damage and loss but the interesting thing they found was that among all this devastation, a certain group of farmers wheat was holding up very well!
It was the Mennonites of Kansas, a fairly recent group of immigrants from Russia. Their wheat for some strange reason just continued to grow, even through the drought. Now by further investigation, the U.S government discovered that this lowly group of peaceful souls had been driven out of Russia in the late 1800's by the Tsar because they refused to accept the government sponsored religion and its doctrines. The Tsar and the Russian Orthodox Church officials along with the military slowly drove these humble people away from their lands and it was an American railroad company that was developing the Kansas territory and invited these peasants from Russia to settle the new area. They gladly accepted this opportunity and along with their arrival and settlement they were given great parcels of barren land.
Their story became more interesting, for in their arrival to America, they brought with them large quantities of their own wheat seeds, a hardy red wheat variety, a seed not then known to America. They could have brought gold and silver and maybe they did to some degree but they brought with them the wheat seed they knew best. This wheat seed turned out to be the very wheat which was now withstanding the drought. This very SEED eventually became the back bone of the American wheat farmers, enabling America to nearly feed the entire world with its huge wheat harvests! The fascinating aspect to all this is that from that time forward, Russia itself has had to import a great portion of its supply of wheat from America to feed its millions of hungry citizens!
The wisdom for us in all this is that: A once powerful Nation known to us as Russia helped destroy itself by its own misguided decisions. In its arrogance and incorrect policies it failed its own honest citizens by neglecting and eventually casting away its best and its most productive contributors, all because of the demands of an Oppressive Government Religion
Lesson: Be wise in who you Judge, but be wiser in whom you surround yourself with. Look to the Treasures of the lowly, but remember they are nearly impossible to see with Arrogant and Prideful Minds.
