There are Two Sides to Every Story!

We as adults have been filled and are overflowing with experiences of every sort and variety. In some cases there are those who have been punctured by them and gush with extraordinary tales of life's WOES! Often, high quality experience is not always the least expensive, nor the kindest teacher but by experience we are taught, but we do not always learn!

May our seasoning be tasty or may it be bland, the experts tell us many things and one of these so called ENLIGHTENMENTS, is that "THERE ARE ALWAYS TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY!" Especially in events that have anything to do with human nature!

If our taste has dulled for experience, it is not difficult to look elsewhere and discover a spicy morsel to feast upon. This following episode is just such a meal, rich with instruction, emphasizing and lending weight to "THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY!"

This true story is about an older Australian gentleman who had sustained personal injuries and damages in a serious accident and was trying to recover his losses from an insurance company but was having difficulty. The insurance company refused to reimburse him for his losses, because he had made a particular statement at the scene of the accident, that had been recorded in the police reports. He was now involved in a court action against his insurance company and the lawyer for the insurance company was interrogating the complainant in front of the jurors.

The Insurance lawyer, cautiously led him up to the key question and paused for effect.

"Sir, did you or did you not, tell the police officer when he approached you at the scene of the accident, "THAT YOU NEVER FELT BETTER IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE"…"

The frustrated witness responded with a passive "YES," to this factual truth. The lawyer asked him to repeat his answer louder, to the listening ears of the "deciders," and once again he did so with an irritated "YES, YES!"

Now if we were in that jury box and had heard only this one side of the story, we would, no doubt judge this case in favor of the insurance company.

Now the Lawyer for the old man, who sought damages for his injuries, began his line of inquiry and brought the juries attention up to the scene of the accident. He then presented the final question that would explain the circumstances for such a convincing validation of HEALTH!

"SIR," the Lawyer smiled at the jurors, "Please tell us what happened and why you made such a statement to the officer, who came to you at the scene of the accident?"

"Well," the old gentleman began, with a slow caution in his voice, "By the time the officer arrived on the scene, I was really shook up and was just crawling out of the ditch and I saw him walk up to my horse, which was laying over on its side, AND THE OFFICER PULLED OUT HIS GUN AND SHOT MY HORSE!"

The old timer paused a moment, wiped a sniffle away with the back of his sleeve, then continued with a tear in his eye. "THEN THE OFFICER CAME ON DOWN THE ROAD AND FOUND MY DOG, ALL BANGED UP, JUST LAYING THERE, SO HE SHOT MY DOG TOO!"

There was a long quiet pause in the court room before he went on, "THEN HE CAME WALKING OVER TO ME, AND then ASKED ME, HOW I WAS FEELING?" The old man looked around at the courtroom, rubbed his bruised chin an looked back to the jury then added, "AT THAT MOMENT, TO TELL THE TRUTH, I THOUGHT I'D BETTER DARN WELL GIVE THAT OFFICER, STANDING OVER ME WITH HIS GUN, THE MOST HEALTHY ANSWER I COULD THINK OF!!!"

We now have the other side of the story to help us in our CONCLUSION! One of the great lessons here is that, first we never fall victim to only hearing, ONE SIDE OF A STORY! Then, that we realize and understand that there will always be another side to the account! For the enrichment of our own reasoning and the best development of our own characters, we might exercise this thinking within the bounds of our personal experiences. When we find ourselves standing in a place of discernment or judgment, (may it be in everyday life or in a position of authority) we must always seek THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER! We should inquire, and earnestly challenge theories and facts, in order to attain the best and wisest determinations!
