The Hanging Tree!

  An evil ruler once decided to rid himself of his main opposition and set about plotting a very cunning plot to entrap his innocent opponent. The rulers plot soon took its shadowy course and sure enough, the innocent man was entrapped and locked into the deepest dungeon. Soon the innocent man found himself standing before the evil ruler, hearing his sentence of "death by hanging" pronounced.
However, friends and fate soon began to work their own plot, based upon the law of the land. For a law existed that a man found guilty of his crime had to be hanged upon a tree within a block of where he had committed his crime.

Thus, the night before the mans execution all his friends went forth and working all through the night, they cut down every tree for at least two blocks from where this crime was suppose to have taken place; not one was left standing! In the morning, the hangman brought the rulers opponent from out of his cell and soon found that there was not a tree anywhere to be found, so as to fulfill this execution. The mans execution was stayed, until trees could grow back tall enough to hang this man. However in the mean time, the rulers plot was discovered and the mans innocence was proven and once again tasted freedom. In time the ruler was deposed and his opponent became the ruler of the land.

 Now I could put a twist into this story by saying that the new ruler now passed another law that it was forbidden to cut any trees down within the city. This meant that if he ever wanted to hang someone, there would be no way of preventing his decision. Or we might say that the new ruler blessed his friends which had altered his fate, by their wisdom and actions. Or the new ruler gave them all jobs in the government and replanted the downed trees!

The moral is this; What good are friends if they won't take some action on your behalf when they find you have a need? There are friends by word and friends by deed and you be the judge on which one you are…to your friends!
