THE SNAKE AND THE GUN!
THERE was once a very gifted youth who lived in a wilderness land. This youth had grown up in a small village and at a very young age was taught to be an exceptional hunter. By using his skills of hunting and trapping he eventually earned enough money to purchase himself an extraordinary hunting rifle. This fine weapon became an extension of his youthful abilities but it also empowered his youthful pride into new dangerous heights! In time his haughty reputation along with the fear of his remarkable weapon spread throughout the country side. He accomplished this by dominating the best places and intimidating the other hunters, who also desired to hunt for their livelihood. Little by little he took heartless liberty to needlessly shoot everything that crossed his path! Then one fine and fair day while guiding several visiting hunters from another village, unexpectedly, a large harmless BLACK SNAKE crossed before him. The snake moved calmly and meant no harm to anyone, yet the proud hunter moved quickly making sure everyone was watching, and thrust down his rifle stock upon the back of the snake, pinning it to the ground. There was no practical need for this action but he only wanted to show off his fearless ability to the visitors! As the villagers came up behind the youthful hunter, he turned to see if they were looking and while he posed for them, the snake's tail slowly curled up the barrel and unnoticeably found its way around the trigger. When the proud hunter had finished receiving his glory from the wide eyed visitors, finally looking down at the dying snake, it became his last look. For at that moment the snake somehow managed to pull the trigger and the gun went off, BOOMING, and shot the proud hunter dead! Then and there all his pride vanished and the village hunters quickly released the near dead snake and then claimed the proud hunters gun!
This stories realization of ugly pride mixed with ego, might allow an understanding to come unto us of its ability to ruin. For if there be a gift or possession of some special ability, never let it be abused or let pride rule over any gift, for it could bring about ones personal harm! If you do harbor an extreme ego, make sure you do not allow sneaky snakes to tangle their tale in your gifts trigger!
