The Story Of Two Sins

Once upon a time past, two men were discussing their life’s mistakes made against their friends and fellow humans. They got into an argument weather one HUGE hurt was greater than a lot of LITTLE errors? After great debate and intense exchanges, they decided to bring their questions to their village Elder and presented him with their question. The Elder took his time and thought their questions over for a while, and then told the one man who had committed one great mistake , to go forth and get a bolder, to the size he felt his error was equivalent to. Then he told the other man with many smaller hurts and sins to go forth and gather as many stones, as he felt equal to his many errors.

Both men departed from the village and were gone for some time. Then they were seen returning, carrying their burdens. The first man was weighted down with a huge bolder, under which he staggered and struggled with and brought it before the Elder. Then the second man returned and approached the elder bearing his quantity of various stones. The Elder looked over their burdens and first conferred with the man carrying his single great bolder, and told him, “Now my dear friend, go now and replace your boulder back where you first removed it from.”

The man once again picked up his weighty object and went off struggling and once again found the place where he had originally taken it from and dropped it back exactly into its place. The Elder then told the man with the multitude of stones, to go and replace each stone, exactly back where he had gotten them from. The man immediately protested vigorously, saying, “Please wise Elder, this is impossible, for how could I know where to find the exact places I had taken each of them from?" The elder replied, "That is right my dear friend, exactly, for mistakes are mistakes, NO MATTER WHAT SIZE they are. But your many errors and hurts against others during your life will be far greater to correct, since you do not know who and where you brought them against.” And the second man went off carrying his many stones, searching from where he had taken them from and didn’t return to the village for many years.

Is there a moral to this story? Yes, don’t let the sun go down on your sins, on your mistakes and if you do, don’t let them pile up until you forget when and where they originated. For inside each human exists a conscience which never forgets! And true happiness is a mind and a heart free from unforgiven burdens!
