PEARLS FOR NAILS!

 In this modern age of life all Families are faced with many important decisions and during their existence those critical choices will certainly establish a very important direction for those who dwell within their bounds. This world offers many glittering and enticing invitations to every family, for they are most attractive targets for all self serving archers! Not one day passes without the world offering some sort of extended invitation and in most cases these temptations involve exchanges of ideals and values: precepts for thrills, morals for riches, and integrity for pleasures! These compromises or exchanges are often made with very little thought to the families ultimate well being in mind. There should be an actual training in awareness alerting the family to such TRADES and their long reaching effects and this should be a common practice and exercise in family education. A family must know and understand that every TRADE it might make could cost them, way more than they ever thought possible! What do we consider a trade?

In the 16th to 18th centuries, the exploration of the globe brought about many interesting events, and this following story will serve to illustrate the significance of a DISCERNING EXCHANGE! When the ancient navigators began to explore the South Pacific and set anchor in strange, never before known harbors, the explorers sought their fortunes in new treasures. The many islands were void of all known metals, including gold and silver but there still existed a "WHITE JEWEL OF THE SEA...THE PEARL!"

The PEARL quickly became the desired treasure of fortune and could easily bring wealth to those who possessed them. The natives were ignorant of such matters but were just as intrigued by metal objects; for they had never known iron or metal and soon, a hardy TRADE developed between the natives and sailors. The sailors gave their metal buckles and buttons and tools to the eager natives in exchange for lovely pearls. The source of metal objects was very limited, except when one ingenious sailor came up with a great source of iron objects...NAILS OUT OF THE SHIPS STRUCTURE! It seemed a near unlimited supply and went well in the TRADE, one pearl per nail. As more sailors began to discover this simple TRADE, the supply of nails began to dwindle. Soon, without realization the great sailing ship, the very vessel of their escape, which lay anchored in the calm harbor had become nearly depleted of nails! Each seaman had worked independently of one another, removing spikes and nails, here and there, never suspecting that many others were doing the same and no one realized the extent of the over all danger that each of these exchanges had put their ship into. The sailors only thought of their great accumulated treasures and how wealthy they were.

Oh, but soon a storm packing strong winds, arrived at the harbor and pounded the vessel all through the night. When morning finally arrived, to everyone's horror, their ship was not to be found! For it was scattered everywhere, both floating and strewn in hundreds of separate pieces, single beams and countless planks! The ship had literally come apart at the seems...BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING HOLDING IT TOGETHER! Now the entire crew, captain, sailors and all, were without means of returning home and their fortunes were made worthless! Meanwhile the nails which were now lost among the native population...to the explorers were worth their weight in gold, but there was no gold!

In the same manner, may all families be fully aware of their real Treasures of security, example and Dignity...before it ever thinks these bonds to be nothing! Therefore protecting the vessels lasting values, instead of losing them a piece at a time for SOMETHING WORTHLESS! May all families, no matter who they be, understand that there are many strong ideals and values that hold a quality family together. And the "NAILS" in this case could be likened unto morals and solid standards that are firmly fixed and found within a caring and concerned family and remain established there for the security of the entire VESSEL. If these individual values are removed from the family structure, that entire family and all it stands for COULD BE LOST IN THE churning OCEANS OF TODAY OR THE fierce STORMS OF TOMORROW!
