Paint The Inn

From out of the evening shadows there came a luxurious coach pulled by seven white horses.  The coach driver carefully worked the coach over the rugged and worn road and finally halted at the door of the Old Forest Inn. The driver jumped down and opened the coach door and stepped aside as a well dressed stranger stepped out of his fabulous carriage. The traveler smiled, stretched his limbs and slowly looked around while taking in the smells of the pleasant Forest Inn then with a quick step he entered into the solidly built Inn.

The thick oak door swung open on its squeaky brass hinges and the rich man stepped into the warm quaint atmosphere of a crackling fire. Warm dancing shadows flickered around the room blazing from out of the stone wall fireplace, while the pungent smell of fresh baking bread filled his nostrils. The various guests nodded their friendly greetings as the stranger seated himself at one of the thick wood tables.

Soon, introductions were made between the Inn keeper and the wealthy visitor, who soon made inquiries, if the Inn was for sale.  The owners nodded with a smile, saying, "That it was, for the right price!"

Before the evening was over, the rich stranger had made an incredible offer for the Old Forest Inn, for a sum of Ten Thousand Gold Rubles! Both the old Inn keeper and his wife were overwhelmed by such an offer; for they knew that their Inn was only worth, a tiny portion of the offer. Without hesitation they accepted the offer, to be paid in gold one month from then.

After the proposal had been sealed with a deposit of 50 Gold Rubles the wealthy stranger accepted the Inn keeper's best hospitality of food and comfortable lodging. In the morning the wealthy traveler arose and departed, promising to return in a month with the remainder of the promised gold.

Of course, the Inn keeper and his family were very excited, happy over their good fortune but decided that the Inn could use some renovation. After all, they were receiving far more than they had ever bargained for and it would only take but a little to refurbish the Inn, pleasing the rich buyer even more. Immediately, they procured a variety of items to help them in their tasks. New paint for the walls, inside and out, new doors, new windows, shutters, wall paper, a touch here and there and a few trees out of the way for better light. The hard month of work was completed, shortly before the promised day of return.

Now the wealthy stranger returned back just as he promised carrying with him a box full of gold rubles, as agreed upon in the offer. He searched and looked but the old quaint forest Inn had been so much changed with renovations, paint and all, the wealthy buyer just drove on by, and was unable to recognize the Old quaint Inn of the forest! Thus the dream of the Inn keepers was dashed and their sale was never fulfilled!

Moral: Let us not be too anxious to try and out think good fortune, but let us hurry to grant it all recognition for its visitation!!
