Religion has always been and will continue to be the single greatest application of human brain power ever known. This outward expression of ones inner faith often allows outside viewers to gain a curious and at the same time a paradoxical perspective of this organized function of will and faith. The following story of humorous consequences brings with it a question, "Is religion strong enough to live with the ANSWERS to its prayers?" If men in their religion are so called "Believers," then they should actually consider each of their petitions before they might announce them aloud to the "Powers on High" for answers and fulfillment! This quandary is pretty well summed up in this episode: The story is told of a small town in which there was no liquor Stores OR TAVERNS OF ENTERTAINMENT. However, as the town grew eventually a nightclub was built right on down town Main Street. Members of one of the churches in the area were so distraught that they conducted several all night prayer meetings, and asked the "POWER ON HIGH" to Destroy, to Obliterate and Burn down that terrible DEN OF INIQUITY! Sure enough, A SHORT TIME LATER during a storm, LIGHTNING strangely struck the tavern directly and it was completely gutted and destroyed by fire, and burned so hot it charred nearby buildings! The owner of the now destroyed tavern, knowing how the church people had prayed, now took the church to court and was attempting to SU THE CHURCH for the damages! The tavern owners attorney claimed that the churches PRAYERS HAD certainly been heard and CAUSED THE LOSS! But the congregation, on the other hand, hired a Lawyer and was now fighting the ridiculous charges! After listening to all the arguments and after much deliberation the Judge finally DECLARED… …"It's the opinion of the court that wherever the guilt may lie, the tavern keeper is certainly the one who really believes in prayer! This is obvious because he is trying to sue the people who claim to have access to higher powers and asked for this event to take place, and apparently the tavern owner accepts that their prayers were heard. Now this wouldn't be so strong of a case but however, the church members who fervently prayed, now suddenly for some strange reason…must not believe, for they have hired a lawyer to defend them against this law suit. Now they have turned around with their same fervency, but are instead, well, are now trying to deny the power on high, the same Power they first petitioned to do their dastardly deed!" The Judge concluded that "This is the dandiest case I ever did see," and added, "Maybe the tavern owner should be in the church business rather than the tavern business, he might do very well!" The Judge slammed down his gavel and then added, "Please make up your minds!" Moral: When you set your sites on victory, don't let losers steal your winnings! Contact Author at: |
