The Clever King And The Cunning Gypsy!

  Far off in a distant land there was once a clever King who carefully ruled over his peaceful domain but one-day disturbing news arrived at his throne. Reports had been sent that cunning GYPSIES were deceptively taking advantage of his people and trouble was brewing over this matter. These reports persisted and many travelers were becoming extremely irritated over this annoying itch in the land. The confident King thought that he might adventure forth in disguise and settle this disturbing matter himself. After all, he was the king and what tricky simpletons could get away with such trickery? He dressed in common clothes, prepared an old tattered coach, hitched up four horses, and then departed alone for the trouble-making village.

Over hills and through the valleys he went and finally came to the region where the Gypsy village had been reported to be. His coach came to a young Gypsy lad who was cutting wood alongside the road and inquired about how far the village lay ahead. He learned that the village lay just around a few more bends and so readied himself for his unexpected entry. The youth happily inquired about the mans visit, but the King only said, "It is just some serious business I need to complete." The youth quickly told the stranger that his father was the village Chief and that an unexpected visit would never oblige the purpose of his business. Thus the lad suggested that if the stranger might lone him a horse he would ride ahead and inform his father about him and then he would be properly received with great honor and dignity. This immediately appealed to the Kings thinking and he gave over his first horse to the lad. The youth rode away then returned shortly with another suggestion. "Sir, my uncle is also a village Chief and would be honored to greet your arrival on horseback, so I might suggest that you allow me to bring forth another horse for him." The King nodded his approval and the youth took the second horse. The youth soon returned again to the coach saying, "Friend, I would like to make a further suggestion, concerning your success" and so the King suspiciously agreed. The youth humbly admitted, "Both my mother and my uncles wife are very influential women and would be very offended if they were left out of the honor of your greeting and you might be wise to send two horses for them and this would be a most wonderful way in which to assure success to your efforts!"

Well that was it; there the clever King stood alone next to his horseless coach and watched the youth ride off with his four horses, never to see them or the cunning Gypsy boy again!

Moral! Cleverness is no match for expert deception, better go armed with more than just cleverness and a title!
