It’s Time To Fly!
Dedicated to our kids! Okay, enough is enough, you’ve been around here long enough. We’ve done our best to teach you to fly. We’ve done our best to show you the way. We’ve done everything possible to make your flight both safe and successful. So now dear children, please consider your parents and venture forth upon the branch and go for life! Your all old enough now to find your way, besides, your mother and me are somewhat tired of baby sitting kids that are old enough to run for president, or be running a major corporation…and just letting you know we think anyone over 30 should at least have their own home! Please read this short and very fitting narrative, but don’t take it wrong your always welcome to fly in and have a short visit with us…now and then…but call first!
Nature is so practical it makes us humans whence with silly emotions about how things should be.
Now once, not to long ago, there were three young swallows which were perched on a dead branch that stretched out over a lake. The father swallow got alongside the chicks and started shoving them out toward the end of the branch, pushing, pushing, pushing and eventually the end one fell off. Somewhere between the branch and the water fourteen feet below, the wings suddenly started flapping and working their way to flight, and the fledgling was off on his own. Then the second one was dispatched over the end of the branch and the same thing... But oh no, the third was not to be bullied. At the last possible moment his grip on the branch loosened just enough so that he swung downward, then tightened again, and hung there bulldog tenacious. The second parent (good old Mom) was without sentiment. It pecked at the desperately clinging talons until it was more painful for the poor chick to hang on than risk the insecurities of flying. The grip was finally and reluctantly released, and the inexperienced wings began pumping and o-laa, the little bird took flight! The Papa and Mama swallows knew what the chicks did not, that they would fly, that there was no danger in making them do what they were perfectly designed to do. The parents knew this, but there was no other way to inform the now mature swallows, but by force and with what we might consider strong arm tactics or cruelty…WRONG!
"Birds have feet and can walk. Birds have talons and can grasp a branch securely. They can walk; they can cling. But flying is their characteristic action, and not until they fly are they living at their best, gracefully and beautifully. So now dearest children, it is time to test your wings, don’t be afraid, your made to succeed. You got special talents and your minds are trained and your parents need to know that they have succeeded in their long tiring efforts, GO FOR IT, GET A LIFE and GET A JOB!
