NOBODY'S GOOD ENOUGH!

There was a rich man named Fredrick Stukinguard who had an only daughter who had nothing to recommend her except her father's money. Whatever match was proposed for her the father would always turn it down. "My daughter Martha will marry only a man of good family, like unto mine," he bellowed haughtily. One day the village Match Maker Herman Tattletale came to him with a proposition. "The youth I'm proposing for your daughter is a gem, a real jewel, a chunk of gold," he told the rich man. "He's handsome, he's learned in books, and he has a fine character." "Who is he," asked the rich man, beaming with anticipation. "It is that fine boy Ivan, the cobbler's son," answered Herman the Match Maker. "Hak, Girr…you MISERABLE CREATURE," roared the rich man. "How dare you propose such a miserable match for my Martha! Out of my house this minute,” he bellowed, and then and there he roughly escorted the Match Maker out of the house.

Several days later, who should call on the same rich man but the persistent matchmaker, Herman Tattletale! The minute Stukinguard saw Tattletale he turned red and shouted, "You here again, you fool, you ignoramus and trouble maker too! I told you not to show your face here again!" Humbly Herman quickly stated, "Don't be angry," while gesturing with his hands trying to calm the rich man. "I have a first class match for your daughter this time I promise he is really a jewel ." The rich man became curious. "Really...??" he asked. "Who is it now?" "None other but the Mayor’s first and best son! The rich man leaped to his feet with delight. "Wonderful! This is really extraordinary and surely unexpected!" he murmured. "But tell me, my dear friend Tattletale, were you already at the Mayor's home? Did you talk to him about the matter yet?" "What a question: 'Was I there?' Of course I already spoke to the Mayor about it." "Tell me! What did he say," Fredrick Stukinguard inquired eagerly.

Herman the matchmaker paused here for a dramatic moment and then said, "What did he say? He said just what you said to me the other day! "You INSIDIOUS IGNORAMUS! How dare you propose such a match for my son! Out of my house this minute!” And he immediately led me to the door and threw me out into the street!

Ivan the cobbler married a simple traditional girl and eventually owned seven shops throughout the surrounding villages and lived very happy! But Martha remained a maiden, working for Ivan's wife, while the Mayor's son became a cobblers helper, and grew old as a bachelor and it was too late for change!

Moral: Judge not your future on exalted standards based on principles of which you know not!
