The Couch Out of the Sky!
Once upon a day, an old hard working but kind couple, without much to live on took in their old feeble uncle Ed. now Uncle Ed's only son was wicked and a drunk and had squandered his fathers money and poor old Ed did not want to live with him any longer. Ma and Pa were poor but willing givers an offered their old couch which was just about the only real piece of furniture that the old couple owned, but it was real old and worn. Uncle Ed was happy and took a liking to it and slept on it day and night and loved that old couch. He made it his home, his bed and kept watch over it day and night, for it was about the only thing he had to himself and it was filled with many good memories from the past.
Many a time, old Pa and Ma tried to get rid of the tattered couch and replace it with something just a bit better for Uncle Ed but he insisted that this was more than he needed and refused their kindness. It was not until Ed had passed away that they were finally able to get rid of it and so they did. One Saturday afternoon they managed to deliver it to a Needy rummage Store in the nearby town and said their “Good riddance!”
Well now as stories go, this is where this one takes off. Before they could replace that old couch, a great storm came through their immediate area and managed to blast the entire town and demolished the farm. The house was blown away, the barn was no longer and everything was leveled. When old Ma and Pa found it safe to come out of the cellar, they were both astonished and amazed at the great destruction that lay all around them. However, their eyes fell upon something really strange, more so than they were expecting. They were especially amazed at one thing, they saw their old couch, the very same one they had given away several weeks back. There it was, old Uncle Ed’s couch, just sitting there in the middle of everything! It was resting there, no more damaged as the day they had given it away and there it was right smack dab in the middle of what was left of their home. It was incredible, how could this be, the storm or tornado must have picked it up out of the old rummage store and blown it back here, now wasn’t that strange?
As hardy souls go, they started to rebuild their home and lacking any furniture they had to both sleep, once again on that old Uncle Ed’s couch. Now in their efforts to clean it up and make it a little more comfortable they first set to repairing its many broken parts and springs. While they were a working they found an old letter stuffed deep inside. To everyone’s surprise the hidden package contained old wise uncle Ed's Will and some old bonds worth lots of money. he had left them his farm and had hidden his will in his old favorite couch of many memories. The farm was on the other side of the hill, where the storm had not done much damage and it was a nice layout, a good home and uncle Ed's son was told by the fathers will to get off his land unless he began a new life and then it was up to Ma and Pa if he should be allowed into the bunk house. So the good for nothing son changed his ways and became the mayor of the new town and the old couch of many memories still sits in old Ma and Pa’s real nice house to this day.
All ends well from the couch out of the sky!
