Once there was a fisherman walking upon a lonely beach. Somewhere on the sand, his foot unexpectedly stirred up an old crusty vessel, carved with a face and with a smile he stooped to lift it from its place. After examining the find for a long while, curiosity had its way and thus the fisherman walking on the bay broke the seal to discover what might lay. Suddenly, an ancient swirling figure swooshed out with a blaze and in a second, through a haze there arose an excited Genie who so quickly declared, "Oh, Dear Fortunate Friend, I've been locked away and drifting for hundreds of years, crying oh so many tears, thank you for letting me free from so many more years!" The wondering fisherman was more than amazed, in what might be called a daze! Thus with a flash he dropped all his cash, jumped into the air with a mighty great scare and stood there ready to run. But with wide open ears, listening as the Genie wiped away his tears and went on proclaiming, "For rescuing me from being a slaver, I shall grant one single favor, no matter how great its task, so my good fellow just feel free to ask?" The fisherman thought for a long while and finally asked, "Sir, I have always wanted to fish in Hawaii but I get seriously sea sick, and cannot fly in a plane because of the pain. So my wish is to fish and my favor is that you would build me a wondrous BRIDGE from California to Hawaii! So I might just drive and safely arrive, and in all my wishing, finally do some mighty fine fishing." The Genie was perplexed and he did flex, shuffled his feet and rubbed his seat and began, "Well now, this is not an impossible task but hear me now, and I'll tell you how, do you know the risk and what it might take? Surely you know the distance, I'll need a ton of assistance, truly this is a lot of wishing to build a BRIDGE just to go fishing! Sinking down all those fillers and great pillars, hauling steel and beam, laying tons of cement and seam, pouring and paving two thousand miles of heroic Highway. I can do this in one season, but can't you wish for something else with a little more REASON, and yes, I'll grant you the favor?" Then and there, the fisherman pondered and pulled his hair, then he brightened and finally declared, "Well I guess my request is a little unfair somewhat of a task, so I will ask you for something less……I want you to grant me the UNDERSTANDING OF WOMEN!" The Genie immediately sputtered and spit and went into a fit. He glanced and danced, looking around for his safe and sound vessel but nowhere was it to be found! Though he was inflamed, yet in time returned sane, cleared away his pain and declared… "Now that's INSANE… DO YOU WANT…TWO LANES OR FOUR LANES?" |
