There can be, and there are experiences in life which will establish themselves as memorials to places and times in ones life and this following event allowed my mind to be forever impressed by one of nature's most awesome forces, a tropical Lightening Storm! The tropics seem to be as if a natural environmental laboratory for the powers and forces of nature to be continuously mixed and pored forth from one vile into the next, creating ever new and greater displays of awesome forces, beyond imagination. Because of the tropical production of moisture and the intense build up of heat and having no natural barriers to check these powers these wondering forces randomly fuse into incredible generators of intense activity, sometimes beyond belief. In the vast wilderness of the Brazilian tropics you will somehow feel something in the air and at first you're not sure, but then out of curiosity you lift your head to notice a far off tempest on the horizon. It is a silent force to begin with and you can't understand what caused you to be made aware of this silent and unearthly mountain rising into the sky. From its distant growing peak there silently flashes pulsating flecks of lightning, and it seems so out of place in the lush green setting, reminding you of a glittering diamond in the sky. You stand there curious in your field watching, totally amazed as this spectacle of nature as it slowly rises up into a mountain range as the massive churning weather front rumbles closer. Soon you are mesmerized, staring into the heavens at a serpents gigantic head spueing forth lightning strikes in all directions as if fighting with an unseen enemy. Forked blazes of fire reach into the heavens, slash down, and flicker like a snakes darting tongue trying to electrocute its foe. Almost like a mechanical giant, it whips its snarling spiked head to and fro, baring its fangs while searching out its way! Soon the tumbling storm is roaring over head like a thousand freight trains, spitting lightning into the now darkened sky. Brilliant flashes like rockets gone wrong, nearly blind the on looker, streaking like jagged knives slashing in all directions. Crooked fiery tongues flash into the forest, sinking their billion degree electric bolts into innocent towers, splintering huge trees into kindling. Radiant spears thrust themselves into the earth and sparks dance like scattered coals upon the ground. Now the ominous thunders can be heard as they lumber behind the rushing ocean in the sky. Without mercy they shake the ground you stand upon and crash violently like a churning ocean driven by fierce hurricanes in their intense fury! Suddenly the immense mountain is upon you. You can smell the electricity as though it were a hellish inferno in the sky as it cooks and sizzles the air with unseen sources and powers! Tremendous concussions wrestle themselves within the bounds of awesome laws, trying to escape the melting black and Grey clouds rolling and tumbling themselves into one unspent world of furious madness! There is nowhere to run, it's too late, you have been mesmerized into the jaws of this raging beast and you lay down, as if between the tracks, as the now thundering freight train roars inches over your life. You know its day but it is now dark, yet everything is blazed alight in continuous explosions of blue white light, flashing broken teeth to their targets like falling stars. Fire and brimstone is nothing to this fury of a fiery mountain roaring upon you. Then the thunders are booming in battle around you and the winds begin rushing into the wake of the passing mother mountain! Thunders explode repeatedly into one another, blasting the crackling darkness while concussions echo and reverberate as cannons in the heat of battle. The winds finally get their place and begin to tear at the dust, slashing holes in the belly of the storm and it screams in rage! Then slowly between shaking roars, you hear the march of on coming rain pounding like a river broken loose from heaven. A roaring blinding waterfall appears like a monstrous wave beating down everything that the lightning, thunder and wind did not thresh! The wall of water drenches the earth and sky in a gushing deluge! Lightning bristles into the water, showering sparking colors as if the sun sparkling under waves. Then it's gone! Tiny droplets chase among new born rainbows which spring up like fountains of brilliant light in a garden of churned clouds sloping down from the boulder humped back of the rumbling mountain. The sky returns blue, the air sparkles alive as the storm crawls over the horizon, shooting back cautious and dirty looks of licking lightning, making sure nothing is following its behind! Soon this awesome spectacle of a furious dragon is once again disappearing over the opposite horizon with its tail swishing behind, leaving a path of trampled forest in its wake. Like distant cannons the war moves on to another land and you thank everything there is to thank, for survival and peace…and you know your life has just been changed! Contact Author at: |
